I created this site because I think there needs to be a simpler way to find online information about "the basics", for starters, where to access food banks and hot meals. This information can be difficult to identify based on search results alone. And current listings for food providers often don't include important information, like hours of operation or details about location. So I set out to create a site that would help resolve basic questions like "If it is 2:30 pm on Wednesday and I need food in or near Vancouver, Washington, what resources are available and how can I get to those resources?"
Public transportation links are also posted, so that site visitors can coordinate directions and available bus routes and schedules. The goal is to make important, and sometimes critical, information more usable, by displaying when and where services are available.
I am a usability analyst, which means I try to present information in a meaningful way and help make websites and software easier to use. I live in Vancouver, Washington with my family, plus a very timid dog and a very brave cat.
I hope to
expand the site in the future to cover other important "basics", in particular, free/emergency shelter and medical care services.
*I created this site as a public service. I do not receive any revenue from the site. I will do my best to ensure the posted information is current, but please keep in mind that hours and providers may change unexpectedly, so check with your selected provider by phone first whenever possible.
